How Do You Make A Mint Julep?
With a rich Southern history dating back to the early 1800s, the mint julep is most refreshing when made with the freshest of mint leaves. Then take it out to your front porch and kick back. Serves one. Step 1 Put three mint leaves in the bottom of a mixing glass. Step 2 Pour in simple syrup (see Tips) and 1 oz. bourbon. Step 3 Muddle to crush the mint leaves and mix the bourbon and syrup. Step 4 Add the rest of the bourbon. Step 5 Let the mixture stand for at least 3 minutes. Step 6 Strain into a cocktail glass filled with shaved ice. Step 7 Garnish with a mint sprig. Step 8 Serve with a short straw.
The Ultimate Belle Cocktail.Difficulty: EasyTime Required: 10 minutes Here’s How: • Gather 3 sprigs of fresh mint. • Measure 2 teaspoons of cold water. • Measure 1 teaspoon of granulated sugar. • Gather about 1 cup of crushed ice. • Measure 2-1/2 ounces of bourbon. • Tear off the leaves of 2 of the mint sprigs and place them in the bottom of a tall glass. • Add water and sugar and stir until sugar is dissolved and mint is bruised. • Fill glass with finely crushed ice and pour bourbon over the ice. • Stir and garnish with remaining mint leaves. • Serve with a straw under a magnolia tree.Tips: • If you don’t drink alcohol try a nice mint iced tea instead. • 2 or 3 drops of mint flavoring can be added in step 6 instead of the mint leaves. The mint flavoring will have a stronger mint taste.
