While full fairy costumes can be found at any costume shop, custom-made versions can be tailored to fit the wearer’s personality. Details like the color scheme and accessories can be changed to create a costume that’s ethereal, playful or dark. Mesh tulle is the basis of the skirt, wings and a flowing headpiece; it can be purchased in many colors anywhere that sells fabric and online. Cut the mesh tulle into 4 inch wide strips. An adult-sized skirt will require at least 40 strips. The strips can be all one color, or two or more colors can be alternated. Measure your waist and add two inches. Lay the elastic flat and cut it to that length. Tie the mesh tulle strips to the elastic one at a time by folding the tulle in half, and laying the elastic over the fold so that the end makes a loop.
