How Do You Make A Mancala Set?
Mastering the game of mancala is quite difficult. Making your own set, however, is simple. You need very little to get started, but more experienced players often create their own ornate boards. First, gather 36 playing pieces of any kind such as stones, coins, seeds, or even small gems if you are feeling luxurious. Mark two rows of 6 containers (called “pits”). You can use cups or simply draw out areas on a sheet of paper or on the ground. Mark one larger pit on each end called the “cala.” If you want a more traditional set, carve the pits and cala out of a small board, using a whittling knife or a gauge to create the depressions. Place 3 pieces in each pit, leaving the calas empty.
