Make 10 loops around a AAA battery with magnet wire (available at electronic supply stores), leaving about 2 inches of wire hanging off both ends of the battery. The ends should come straight out of the left and right sides of the coil, making the axis that this electromagnet will spin on. Use a sharp utility knife to strip off the top half of the covering of both the left and right ends of the wire that make the axis.
