Cut the u-lock where the u-joint enters the security bar, making the cut as smooth and straight as possible for maximum visual illusion. Another option is to obtain a broken u-lock from a bicycle repair shop or police auction. Use super glue and attach a small, round magnet to the bottom portion of the u-joint where you made the cut. Glue the other magnet to the security bar. If possible, make your initial cut of the u-joint into the security bar, so that, when the magnets attract, it will appear as if the u-joint inserts into the security bar (as it would when using the lock as intended).
