Doing this makes it impossible for birds to notice there is no bottom inside the birdhouse. Mask off the pipe when painting to keep it from the rest of the trap materials. Step 2 Bolt the birdhouse front directly to the pipe elbow. Step 3 Slide the pipe elbow directly onto the pipe. Do not glue or bolt it on, as the elbow needs to remain loose enough to spin on the pipe, as the wind blows it. Step 4 Use the tin snips to cut a hole in the cage that is 4 inches by 4 inches.
