How Do You Make A Lighted Balloon Column?
Whether at a wedding reception, birthday party or school dance, lighted balloon columns add enchantment and ambiance. Make a simple lighted balloon column with a dowel rod and a terra cotta planter. Use white LED Christmas lights to create the glow in your lighted balloon column since they give off more light and produce less heat than standard filament lights, according to the Division of Educational Programs of Argonne National Laboratory. Pour a 10 lb. bag of potting soil into a 12-inch terra cotta planter. Insert the dowel rod into the center of the soil. Pack the dirt firmly around the dowel rod so that it has no wiggle room. Hold the ends (without plugs) of two 100-count strands of white LED Christmas lights to the top of the pole. Secure the ends of the strands with electrical tape.
