Science fair projects require both a technical as well as a fundamental understanding of the subject. Making a laser pointer for a science fair is a good example of this because it requires knowledge of how a laser functions along with the practical application for making it work. The laser pointer requires a few parts from a laser supply store and tools from a hardware store. The project should not be done by a young person except under adult supervision. Step 1 Put some newspaper down on a table. Remove the battery cap and the batteries from the LED flashlight and place them on the newspaper. Step 2 Unscrew the reflector from the LED flashlight. Discard the plastic lens inside the reflector. Put the reflector down on the newspaper. Step 3 Remove the LED bulb from inside the LED flashlight using the needle-nose pliers. Discard the LED bulb.
