Children love play tunnels. They foster imagination and give them a place to hide and play. Although these tunnels are usually not incredibly costly, it can be fun to make one yourself so you can exercise your sewing skills as well as provide an activity that you and your child can do together. Sewing a play tunnel can be accomplished with any material, but skirts are perfect because they are already in a round shape. Step 1 Gather several old skirts, preferably with elastic at the waist. Lay them down on the floor bottom to top to get an idea of how long the tunnel will be. Add or take away skirts to make the tunnel longer. You can always cut the skirts in half to make the tunnel just a little bit shorter. Step 2 Cut the elastic out of the skirts so that the top and bottom of each skirt are nearly the same size.
