How do you make a home made light ray box?
A ray box is very simply constructed and easily done in class as preparation for exploration of the reflective and refractive properties of light. Ray boxes serve to isolate a narrow beam of light from the ‘glow’ of a light source. Note: Single slit vs. multi-slit ray boxes: The narrow light slits must be very finely cut in a multi-slit ray box to ensure that the rays are distinct. Multi-slit ray boxes are very useful in experimenting with reflection in convex and concave mirrors. – shoe boxes with tightly fitting lids – exacto knife or sharp scissors – one strong flashlight Procedure: Simply cut a narrow slit of 1mm width and 5 cm length centred vertically at one end of the shoe box. Fix a flashlight in the box so that it can easily be turned on and off. For a multi-slit ray box, make sure that slits are evenly spaced and finely cut. I hope it works!
