Not only is this type of rug great for soaking up mud or water, it is also a unique way to recycle old or scrap fabric. All you need is basic sewing and simple braid knowledge to create this environmentally friendly rug. Using scrap fabric or new, begin cutting the fabric in long strips 2 inches in width. The width of the strips will determine the thickness of the braid. If you want a thinner braid, cut thinner strips. Thicker strips create thicker braids. This type of rug is ideal for using up scrap fabric because, regardless of the length, you can sew pieces together to achieve a strip long enough to complete the braid. To sew two pieces together, either use a sewing machine or needle and thread and stitch two ends together. Prepare enough strips to be able to start on the first braid. If in the middle of braiding you need longer strips, simply attach another
