grandfather..hmm how many grandpa’s has this seen?? oil has changed over the years and a clock is a clock (gears) and lots of them. these clocks are rarely have jewels (type of oil less bearing) best type! and we would not be here.
flat out i would say to bring it to a guy that knows whats up ! there like a computer only harder to FIX !!
TO DO i would oil it with say mobile 1 synthetic oil keep it clean level and never ever over wind it 3/4 is good (you get the feel of it, so you and only you wind it !), most have weights and cant be over wound so not to worry..want to learn how to wind ? buy a cheap wind up alarm clock. if you can find one !
