Getting kids to eat healthy is hard enough: I should know! I think I have the most stubborn kids sometimes. Kids need to know and understand how the FOOD PYRAMID works and what it means. What better way to learn about the FOOD PYRAMID then to make a RELAY RACE that they can play over and over again. Start out by determining food items as they relate to the each FOOD GROUP. Level 1 is bread, cereal, rice and pasta. Level 2 includes the vegetable group and the fruit group. Level 3 contains the dairy group and protein (or meats). The last level, which is 4, is your fats, oils and lets not forget sweets. Then decide what types of foods you would like to include in each group. You can have the kids draw and/or color your items using construction paper or perhaps cut out food items from magazines. The kids would even have fun looking up pictures on the internet and printing them out. PLEASE NOTE THAT YOU NEED TO DO THIS TWICE: ONE FOR EACH TEAM AS THEY RACE TO COMPLETE THEIR PYRAMIDS FIRST.
