Funny comics represent a small portion of the comic industry, with superhero comics produced by large corporations like Marvel and DC dominating in sales and production, as of 2010. Lighthearted comics, though, have a significant place in the independent comic industry. In the 1980s and 1990s, a number of independent comic creators rose to prominence, including Jeff Smith (Bone) and Sarah Dyer (Action Girl Comics).
