If you enjoy spending time in the wilderness, hiking or camping, one small piece of equipment could prove essential. A small water filter made from a film container can easily fit in your backpack and can provide you with clean drinking water during an emergency. Use a sharp blade to cut a hole, 1 inch in diameter, in the bottom of the film container. Drill about a dozen holes in one of the water bottle caps, with your electric drill. Then place the cap inside the film container, so that the drilled holes show through the hole in the end of the container. Stuff the disposable coffee filters, cotton or white cloth inside the film container. You now have a very lightweight water filter. Filter your water by pouring it through the film container into your water bottle or cup. When you have finished, use the second bottle cap to squeeze any remaining drops from the filter.
