• Open Paint.NET. If you don’t have it, you can download it from getpaint.net. • Draw an object, or a boundary of it, for the shadow. • Select all (Ctrl+A), invert the selection (Ctrl+Shift+I), and then copy (Ctrl+C). • Create a new layer, and then move it below the the original layer. • Paste (Ctrl+V) and fill the empty space with black or the color you want the drop shadow to be. • Now, use the Magic Wand Tool to select the area that you just filled, invert the selection (Ctrl+Shift+I), and then delete the area that wasn’t filled. Click on Effects, point to Blurs, and then click Gaussian Blur. • Select a blur radius. For example, use 10 pixels of the blur radius. • Or, use Motion Blur. • Select the blur radius and angle to put the drop shadow to one side.
