How Do You Make A Copper-Topped (Or Stainless Steel) Dinette Table Or Bar?
Do you want a metal-covered table or bar top? It turns out to be something you can do yourself. Copper is attractive and relatively easy to apply and maintain. Stainless steel is also attractive and very easy to maintain. Aluminum sheet is easy to obtain and apply but it tends to be harder to keep it attractive. Where to get copper or other sheet metals and how to apply them? The copper-topped table shown in the picture came from a local sheet-metal shop. They carry 10′ x 3′ copper sheet of 24 gauge (also called 16 oz; of thickness 0.0216″). That thickness is relatively easy to work with and seems to be the most available thickness. Some shops also carry 20 oz (0.027″ thick) copper sheet if you would prefer a thicker sheet. When you buy your sheet, know in advance the exact size you will want and have it cut at the shop. Do not try to cut the copper yourself unless you have a metal-working shop. It is difficult to get the good right angles and straight edges that a shop will provide. I
