A composite bow is a bow made of different materials glued together. Each of the materials used imparts a specific quality to the bow. Composite bows were initially developed to provide greater power. The composite is more flexible than a standard bow, acting almost like a spring when the arrow is shot. Composite bows were once common on the battlefield. Today they are used for hunting and in archery competitions. Step 1 Obtain an animal’s horn. These can be from cattle or antelope. Soak the horn and split it open when it is soft. Unroll it and cut it into strips. Step 2 Scrape the horn to eliminate any rough spots. You will also need to get the strips as flat as possible. Boil the horn to soften it further. Take out the strips and clamp them onto a table. The strips will dry flat. Step 3 Cut a strip of wood to a thickness of about 2 inches.
