With just a few yards of fabric, you can quickly and easily update your dining room chairs and transform your dining room decor from drab to beautiful. Step 1 Place the butcher paper on the floor. Lay the back of the chair on the paper then trace the outline of the chair back. Add 1 inch to all sides of the pattern you just created to allow for seam allowances and for the width of the chair back. You’ll need to add more than an inch all the way around if the chair is upholstered or extra thick. Cut out the pattern piece. Step 2 Use the pattern piece to calculate how many yards of fabric you’ll need to purchase, factoring in the number of chairs you plan to cover. Keep in mind that you’ll need to cut two pieces of fabric for each chair. Step 3 Pin the pattern piece on the fabric and cut out two pieces for every chair you plan to cover. Step 4 Place the two pieces of fabric for each chair right sides together.
