How Do You Make A Chainmail Coif?
A coif is part of a suit of armor and consists of a piece of chainmail that covers the head and shoulders, leaving an opening for the eyes, nose and mouth but covering the chin. When finished, this project will be fairly heavy to wear. The pattern used is a fairly easy 4-1 chain using 2 mm rings with 1/4-inch diameter. You can either buy the rings or make your own by buying wire in the same size, wrapping it in a coil around something 1/4 inch in diameter (knitting needles work well) and clipping the rings apart using flush-cut pliers. Step 1 Measure the distance around your forehead and note it on a piece of paper. Draw a straight line equal to that measurement on the paper as well. Make a 4-1 chain (one ring with four others connected to it). Open a second split ring and attach two closed ones to it. Slip the open ring through two of the rings on the 4-1 chain and close it. In this way, you are chaining together multiple 2-1 chainlets to the strand you are making to make a 4-1 patter
