Fold one of the edges back with bottom side up. Take chalkline and pop a line near the edge. Make sure carpet is flat when you make an even cut along line using the straightedge. Take the piece of carpet with even edge just cut and fold back over on top of piece not yet trimmed. Place slide knife against trimmed edge and slide from one end to other keeping it next to trimmed edge causing piece underneath to be trimmed off perfectly even with top piece. Reove trimmed piece from under top piece. Take a piece of seaming tape the length of the two pieces and place it underneath.
