Since the discovery of the Valley of the Kings in Egypt, the ancient Egyptians have held a certain spell over the public. The fascination with both tombs and their contents has captured the imagination of both children and adults alike. For kids especially, one of the best ways to explore the subject of the ancient Egyptians and their mysterious sarcophagi is to create Egyptian themed art projects. There may be no better project for kids than to make an Egyptian sarcophagus. Draw a sketch of the character for the top of your sarcophagus. Look at reference photos and make note of the kinds of clothes the Egyptians wore, what kinds of headdresses, jewelry, etc. Lay down some newspaper to protect your work surface from paint. However, don’t use so much that you don’t have enough left for the paper mache. Spray the cardboard box with gold spray paint.
