How Do You Make A Camp Kaleidoscope?
Making a kaleidoscope is a fun camp project for kids, elementary age and up, to make. You just need a few household items and some things from your local craft store. A kaleidoscope works on the principle of reflection, either using a triangular-shaped mirrored tube inside the outside cylindrical tube or some other triangular-shaped reflective surface such as a plastic report cover. Draw a 10 centimeter by 20 centimeter rectangle on a clear plastic report cover using a ruler and felt-tip pen. Draw one line lengthwise across the rectangle 3 centimeters from the top edge. Draw a second line 3 centimeters down from that line. Draw a third line 1 centimeter up from the bottom edge. Cut the rectangle out of the plastic report cover and bend along the lines. Fold the plastic into a triangle, and tape the 1 centimeter edge to the triangle to close and secure the triangular-shaped tube. Insert the triangular piece of plastic into the paper towel roll.
