This is a step by step description of how to make a Butter Cake from scratch. Of course with today’s busy work schedules, most people don’t have time to make a cake from scratch, but if you have the time, it’s well worth the added work, you’ll taste the difference. You can make any combination from a 2-egg Butter cake to a deluxe 5-egg version which is rich and decadent and great for special occasions. Step 1 Sift flour; measure; add baking powder and salt; sift again Cream shortening; add sugar gradually; cream together until light and fluffy. Add well-beaten eggs(unbeaten if using an electric mixer); beat thoroughly; add vanilla. Add dry ingredients with the milk, stirring only enough after each addition to blend thoroughly. Do not beat. Pour into greased 8 or 9 inch pans. Step 2 Bake in a moderate oven (375 degrees) 20 to 25 minutes. In the 2-egg or 3-egg proportions for best results the 8 inch pan should be filled 1 1/4 inches deep and for the 9 inch pans 1 1/2 inches deep. Butter
