A garter is probably the second best known bridal accessory after the bouquet. They are that small swatch of satin and lace that lives high on the bride’s thigh. Bridal garters can be any where from simple to elaborate and making your own can ensure that you get exactly what you want. Measure your thigh at the height that you will be wearing your garter. Fold your fabric strip in half. Make sure you fold length-wise and with the wrong side facing out. Sew the edge and turn the tube of fabric right side out. Center the seam in the back and iron it flat. The seam will be against your leg now and no one will see it. Sew the lace onto the bottom edge. Insert the elastic into the fabric tube. Use a safety pin, attached to the end of the elastic, if it won’t come through. Put the garter around your leg and decide on a comfortable length for the elastic. Trim the elastic.
