How Do You Make A Bird-In-A-Cage Spinning Toy (Victorian Thaumatrope)?

A traditional and old-fashioned design, the bird-in-the-cage spinner, known as a Thaumatrope in the Victorian era, still fascinates kids with its optical illusion. Below is a simple design for making one, complete with original drawings for each side. Cut a circular piece of cardboard app. 2 1/2″ in diameter or whatever size you prefer. Select the cage and bird designs you prefer; or save and print the designs in the pictures provided in the size you want. Measure and cut two circles the same size as the first, with the images you’ve chosen at the center of each circle. Brush glue on each side of the cardboard disk (or use a glue stick if you prefer). Lay a piece of string flat horizontally on either side of the disk. Punch holes and thread through, if you prefer, using a half-hitch knot to secure each handle. While the glue is still wet, stick one of the images on each side(make sure the image in back is upside-down). Trim the edges with glitter, ribbon, foil or whatever you prefer. T
