How Do You Make A Bicycle Rack?

Making a bike rack may sound overly complicated, but as any parent knows, it can be a necessity. Who wants to come home to a bunch of bikes blocking the driveway, or bikes all over the yard? This rack holds at least five bikes. It’s made from wood, and can be a family project. After you’re done, feel free to paint it up or varnish it to really make it look nice. Your kids will be the envy of the block! You’ll need: • 2 6 foot 2x4s • 4 2 1/2 foot 2x2s • 8 3/4″ wooden dowels, about 4′ long • 4 3 foot 2x2s • Drill with numerous bits, including a 3/8″ bit • Wood glue • 12 screws(2″ to 4″ or longer) • 12 suitable wing nuts • Lay the 2x4s roughly 30 inches apart from each other. • Place one of the 2 1/2 foot 2x2s in the center of the 2x4s, then place the other two on either side, evenly spaced (about 14 1/2 inches from the center). Each 2×2 should have at least 1 inch of wood crossing the 2x4s. • Mark where the 2x2s meet the 2x4s. Drill holes in both, using the 5/8 attachment on your drill.
