A pancake doll is simply made of two layers – front and back – of the same shape, sewn together around the outside edge and stuffed. Once you get the hang of that, you will see where a dart or a seam will make a rounder, better shape. And you’re off into the world of making dolls from your own patterns to suit your own visions. Fold the washcloth in half and measure both directions. Cut a piece of paper to the size of the folded washcloth. Fold the piece of paper in half. Draw half a simple figure with the centerline on the fold. A gingerbread cookie cutter makes a great guide. Make the figure big enough to fill the paper. Trace the other half on the other side of the fold and open it to check the look. Fold the paper again and cut the figure out through both layers so it is symmetrical. You now have a pattern!
