How Do You Maintain Roller Hockey Skates?
Skates for inline hockey, or roller hockey, are different from recreational, speed and trick skates. They were created for use in a smooth-surfaced skating rink and are not recommended for use outdoors, according to Inline Skate Scene. Some maintenance is required to preserve the skates’ leather boot, flexible frame and high-use wheels and bearings. Hockey players who like to get in extra skating outside the rink should consider keeping a separate pair of skates, or at least a set of harder wheels that won’t easily rip or wear down on more coarse surfaces. Apply mink oil to the skates’ leather boots, regardless if they are new or used. Even if the rink is covered, the boots are susceptible to moisture from sweat, spilled water bottles and anything wet that might be placed in a hockey bag. Use the can of pressurized air to blow dust, dirt and other contaminants out of the wheel bearings.
