A home Jacuzzi is, for many, a relatively affordable luxury. For much less than the cost of an in-ground pool, you can enjoy year-round relaxing soaks. While Jacuzzis are not as high maintenance as swimming pools, they do, nonetheless, require a certain amount of maintenance on an ongoing basis. Make sure to run the spa pump and filter at least eight hours a day, every day. This will circulate the water, helping to keep it clean. Test spa chemical levels daily, especially before each use. Keep the chlorine level at 3 to 5 ppm, the bromine level at 3 to 6 ppm and the pH between 7.2 and 7.6. Shock the spa every week. Use about 1 oz. of a commercial spa shock treatment for every 500 gallons of water. Brominating and chlorinating compounds also may be added weekly, in amounts per manufacturer’s directions.
