The Ford Mustang is a classic pony car that’s used to getting its wheels dirty. If you own a 1964 or newer Ford Mustang, you need to lubricate the hood and the trunk latches every 5,000 miles, or as often as you change your oil. You’ll want to lubricate the latches more frequently, however, as your Mustang ages, as it will be more prone to rusting and corrosion. Raise the hood on your Ford Mustang and secure it with the stabilizing bar. Clean the hood latch and latch assembly with your cloth. Use your fingers and cloth to swab out the inside of the latch assembly. Search for rust on your hood latch and assembly. Rust will appear as yellowish to orange/brown flakes or crust. Remove this rust using a piece of sandpaper or a wire brush.
