• Around the beginning of spring, be on the look out for winter clothing as it is cheapest at this time. • Narrow your clothing stores to places like J. Crew, J. Press, Polo Ralph Lauren, Brooks Brothers, L.L. Bean, Lands’ End, etc. Places like Aeropostale, Abercrombie & Fitch, and Hollister are NOT preppy and should not be a destination on your list. • Make sure you pick up the essentials: an overcoat/peacoat, plenty of v-neck sweaters, classic chinos/khakis, long-sleeve polos, and of course accessories like hats, gloves, scarves • Buy the above items in preppy colors (blues, reds, greens, etc.) but make sure they are a bit more muted than your Spring/Summer items. • A main difference between winter and summer clothing is material.
