Locating the heating element in a Whirlpool dryer isn’t difficult and can be done with with just a few tools and little to no experience. Depending on which Whirlpool dryer model you own, the heating element can be accessed through the bottom front or rear dryer panel. Unplug your Whirlpool clothes dryer from its wall outlet. Slide a flathead screwdriver or putty knife along the top of the dryer’s bottom front access panel to access the clips that hold the panel in place. Locate the clips 4 to 5 inches in from either side of the panel. Apply pressure to the clips with your putty knife or screwdriver to release the panel.
