If the engine is the heart of your vehicle, then oil is the life blood. In addition to lubricating your engine, oil also helps keep the temperature down. As the oil circulates through the system, it will inevitably pick up impurities and begin to break down, requiring an oil change. To put in new oil in the engine, however, you must first drain the old oil by removing the oil drain plug on the underside of the engine. Park the car in a level location. Shift the car into “Park,” and turn off the engine. Remove the keys, and set the parking brake. Place a block of wood or other object behind the rear wheel. Locate one of the jacking points for your car—in the majority of vehicles, a spot just behind the front wheel generally highlighted by a raised arrow or “X” marker on the undercarriage.
