How Do You Locate An EIN Number?
An employer identification number, or EIN, is the nine-digit tax identification code issued to a business by the Internal Revenue Service. The number is used by the federal government to identify a particular business. You need your business’s EIN if you are opening a bank account; applying for a state or local business license; or acting as a contractor for another organization. Additionally, an individual filing federal or state taxes online must provide the EIN along with all other information contained on Forms W-2. If you are an employee of the company whose EIN you seek, look in Section B, “Employer Identification Number (EIN),” of the Form W-2 provided to you by your employer.
