Army Basic Training is an intense 12-week program conducted at a number of different Army posts around the United States. This training isolates recruits from the civilian world. Recruits are encouraged to write family and friends and eventually are allowed to make brief phone calls. Family members and friends are not usually allowed to locate recruits and contact them directly except in the case of an emergency.
