Lining a pinafore will hide the seams for a tailored finish while providing structure and versatility. You can use matching or contrasting material for the lining. Just mark the lining pieces with a fabric marker or chalk so you know which is which when you sew them together. Cut out the pinafore according to your pattern, cutting two sets of the bodice and skirt pieces. Mark the lining in some way, if you’re using the same fabric for both. Sew the shoulder seams and side seams of the bodice, lining, skirt and skirt lining. Leave the back seam of the bodice and bodice lining open. Press all of the seams open. Join and sew the sleeves and collar to the bodice. With the right sides together, sew the bodice and the lining together along the neck edge.
