How Do You Light An Oil Hanukkah Menorah?
You will need olive oil, a menorah with 9 candles, and something to light them with.
- Make sure to have a 9 candled menorah because that is the kosher Hanukkah menorah. You need the tallest candle, or the shamash, to light the other candles.
- You need to calculate the 24th day of the Hebrew month of Kislev. At sunset that day, the first candle is lit as the sun goes down.
- You let the candle burn for 45 minutes.
- Read all 3 Hanukkah blessings on the first evening – the other nights you should read the first two blessings.
- You should light each candle each night moving from right to left.
