How Do You Light A Pilot Light On A Furnace?
The pilot light on a furnace is the small flame that is constantly burning. The gas valve on the furnace opens up when the temperature falls below the thermostat setting, which in turn allows gas to flow into burners. The gas is then ignited by the pilot. When the pilot light goes out, so does the heat in your home. Lighting the pilot light on a furnace can be done quickly and safely by taking proper measures. Turn off the thermostat so that it does not try to turn on while you are lighting the pilot light. Shut the gas off at the main valve located at your utility box. Allow the gas fumes to dissipate by waiting about five minutes before proceeding. Turn the furnace’s gas valve to the “Pilot” position. Hold a long fireplace match or a long-stem lighter to the tip of the pilot orifice while simultaneously pressing the red pilot button. This red button is generally located near the gas supply knob. Continue holding the pilot button for about one minute once the pilot light ignites. This
