There are two basic methods of lighting the gas to heat a dryer. The new models have electronic ignitions that light the flame for the gas. Older styles have pilot lights that burn 24/7 and light the main flame when the dryer is turned on. From time to time, the pilot light will go out, and the user will need to manually relight the pilot light. This is typically done by using the manual ignition switch. Check the main gas valve to the house and ensure that the valve is turned to the “on” position. Check the secondary shut-off valve located behind the dryer to make sure it is in the “on” position. Pull open the lower access panel on the bottom front of the dryer. Press the labeled “starter” button next to the pilot light. If your dryer has a manual ignition switch, press the switch while holding the starter button down to light the pilot light.
