How Do You Light A Gas Fireplace With A Match?
Some people are afraid when it comes to using and igniting home appliances with gas. However, you can alleviate the dangers by making sure that the gas is turned off before you attempt to ignite the flame. Also, using a butane lighter can be much safer than a long stem match, as the flame can be quickly turned off if a sudden burst of gas occurs. Turn off the gas supply by inserting the fireplace key into the gas valve, found in the wall or the front of the fireplace (most valves require a 90 degree full turn). Thoroughly clean the area below the gas burner (if the fireplace is wood-burning) so it is free from all ash or burned wood. If the fireplace has gas logs (fake logs), brush them to make sure no gas holes are clogged with dust. If using a wood-burning fireplace, also brush all possible ash/burned particles from the gas holes in the gas burner. Place new wood on top of the grate (if wood-burning fireplace). With a long stem match (or butane lighter), place the flame over the gas
