Remember that Formica is a pressed laminate that is extremely slick, so it’s important to properly prep the surface and get the right adhesive. A bigger problem may be that tile will make the countertop taller, possibly altering how appliances and cabinets fit. Run a string from end to end of the countertop, with a metal pendant extending down to run along the surface. If it buckles or rises over the Formica, the Formica may be warped.
