Although brick fireplaces used to be the latest and greatest in the world of fireplace design, it isn’t any more. In fact a fireplace surrounded by brick tends to look old-fashioned or even cheap. But don’t worry, there is a way that you can revitalize your old fireplace and bring it back into the styles of today: tiling over the top of the ugly brick. Sure, it will take longer than simply painting over the brick, but it will come out better and last longer. Remove the mantel.
