Engineered hardwood flooring combines the best qualities of manufactured laminate flooring and solid wood. Engineered flooring is a series of layers of wood, topped with a thin layer of oak or other good finishing wood, so it has the look of solid wood but is easier to work with, less likely to split while you’re laying it, and just as durable. Engineered wood flooring goes down pretty much like hardwood flooring—except you don’t have to go through a finishing process at the end, as it’s already pre-finished. With your hammer and prybar, remove the floor trim. If you plan on re-installing the trim at the end instead of installing new trim, remove it carefully. If the floor is covered with carpet, tile or anything other than wood, remove it. Roll out your flooring felt from one corner of the room along one wall, using your staple gun to staple it every few feet. Cut it off at the end with your razor knife, then lay down the next roll, overlapping the sides by an inch or two. Continue
