How Do You Lay Bemuda Sod?
Bermudagrass is a popular turfgrass used for lawns, parks, golf courses and sports fields. The warm-season perennial is widely used in subtropical and tropical climates. It grows best in regions that have moderate winters, high temperatures and moderate to high rainfall. Temperatures above 65 are required for good growth. The optimum daytime temperatures for the grass are 95 to 100, according to the Texas Cooperative Extension. The turfgrass is grown in the United States from New Jersey to Florida to the valleys of California. The grass spreads by stolons, rhizomes and seeds. Install Bermudagrass sod when most plants are actively growing, April through September, for best results. Conduct a soil test on the sod bed to determine if the soil’s pH or nutrient levels need adjusting. Remove all debris from the sod site, such as rocks and large roots. Remove the topsoil if the site is to be graded. Grade the soil. Rototill soil to loosen soil compaction and help speed rooting of the grass. R
