How do you know if the satellite is broken? How do you know when the weather satelite is telling the wrong information?
Usually we can tell when the satellites are not functioning because they will give us weird information. It’s like when you are using a calculator and the numbers on the screen don’t look normal or even are giving an answer that you know to be wrong. Immediately, you think that either the batteries are worn out or you are not getting enough light on the power cells. So you try to fix the problem the best way you know how. Well, scientists and researchers here do the same thing. They work out possible solutions when data does not look correct and send instructions to the satellite instrumentation to hopefully fix it. If the satellite fails to respond to the corrections then it just stays in orbit as space debris…unless NASA decides to retrieve it on a Space Shuttle mission to try to fix it.
