How do you know an apple fruit is spoilt?
Usual signs of spoiling include brown or otherwise miscoloured patcches on the skin, wrinkles in the skin, soft patches in the flesh, holes in the skin or an unpleasant smell, like cider. These can differ slightly, depending on the type of apple. If buying apples, feel them carefully for soft patches, if picking them, don’t take them off the ground, only off the tree, and check carefully for punctures caused by insects.
