Yellow jackets are important to the ecosystem, since they eat other insects that destroy plants and crops. Unfortunately, they’re also aggressive, especially in the late summer and fall, when they crave sugar. If yellow jackets are nesting near or on your house, you can dispose of them safely and naturally. Make your bait: If it’s early in the season, yellowjackets crave protein. Canned white meat chicken or hamburger makes a good bait. If it’s late summer or early fall, yellowjackets crave sugar. Dice up a piece of fruit, or use a cup of beer, regular Coca Cola, or fruit juice. Prepare your trap: Fill the bucket 1/2 full with soapy water. Suspend your bait just over the water.
