How do you kill plant roots organically?
Another method is called soil solarization, but this can only be used in smaller areas, and it has to be done in the three hottest months of the summer. What you do is till the soil, and remove as much plant matter as possible, then water the area thoroughly, and spread a layer of thick, clear plastic over it, anchoring the edges of the plastic firmly by berming soil over the edges. Leave it on for three months or so, or even longer if you live in a northern climate, and that should completely sterilize the soil.
