Boric acid is the most effective natural ant killer, and when mixed with sugar, is irresistible to carpenter ants. Worker ants search for food, so if you are successful in feeding them sugar acid, the carpenter ants will carry this deadly food back to their colonies. Eradicating the ants may take as little as a few days to several weeks. Check for signs of insect infestation. Hollowed, smooth wood is a sign of carpenter ants, as is the presence of wood shavings below the entry points.
